It was with great joy this morning that I shared that not only will Michael, God-willing, be ordained as Deacon on December 7, but that that Archbishop has placed him at St Bart’s as Assistant Curate. This means that Michael will be continuing to train at St Bart’s over the next two years, but now in an ordained role. Please join with me in giving great thanks to God for this news, and please be praying for Michael as he prepares for ordination. We’ll have further details of the ordination (that will take place on Saturday, December 7 at St John’s Cathedral, Brisbane) available soon.
At St Bart’s, we’re focused together in the making and maturing of disciples of Jesus for God’s glory. That means that we love to see people come to know Jesus as their Lord and Saviour, along with continuing to mature inthatrelationshipfortheirentire lives. Baptism and Confirmation are important public expressions of our trust in Jesus. Whilst we can of course baptise at any time, we will be celebrating with special services on December 1, followed by an opportunity for Confirmation on December 15.
One of our mission partners, Bishop Daniel (of Duk Diocese, South Sudan), was in contact this week to share of the devastating effects of flooding in Duk Counties. He shared: “As of today, at least more than 500 households in Duk Counties have been affected by creeping waters as a result of heavy torrential rains. Heavy rainfall continue to threaten the lives and livelihoods of many as floodwaters are not expected to recede anytime soon until late November which may highly result to the outbreak…”
Our rosters for October and November (for 7.30AM, 9.30AM, and 6PM) are now available. Last Thursday evening, we were able to welcome over 400 people through the doors of St Bart’s for the Watoto Children’s Choir concert. It was truly an amazing evening. It was great to hear stories from the children and other choir members of how Jesus was at work in their life through the work of Watoto.

I am delighted that we will be welcoming the Rev’d Dr Rory Shiner for our public lecture and teaching day at St Bart’s. Last year, we welcomed around 500 people to our public lecture (with around 50% from outside of our church). Please be praying that this year’s public lecture will also be a great opportunity to engage people to explore Christianity. It’s never too early to invite some friends along. Registrations are now open.
This morning Bettrys and Amy facilitated the next instalment in our ‘Purposeful Parenting’ workshops on “Actively Discipling our Kids“.
